Produce Goodness

Gabi and I went on our weekly Tuesday evening trek last night to pick up our CSA box. Here are the goodies that we found inside:

Avocado
Chard
Kale
Cucumbers
Dandelion Greens
Lemons
Lettuce
Mizuna
Radishes
Heirloom Tomatoes
Tomato Slicing
Zucchini

For those that don't know, CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. We get our box from a local organic farm called Be Wise Ranch. The produce is AMAZINGLY good. I had forgotten how delicious things are if they're left to ripen naturally, then picked and eaten at just the right time.

I love getting things that I would never normally buy, and finding recipes to incorporate them into our meals. I had no idea that I loved Kale and Mizuna, and I make a great Chard Quinoa Pilaf now. Eating with the seasons is also a lot of fun. I'm especially excited about all the gourds that we'll start to get soon!

As for this latest batch, I can't wait to slice into the Heirloom Tomatoes, but I'm at a loss as to what to do with Dandelion Greens. I didn't even know you could EAT Dandelion greens (aren't these considered weeds?) I'll have to try a bite and see if they'd be good in a salad.

If you'd like to find out if you have a CSA in your area, just enter your zip code on the Local Harvest site. The results include lots of information about each farm.
