The Books I Bought

I'm not sure how many people are interested, but since a few people asked, here's the list of books that I got at the used book sale.

I don't know where the heck to put them all. I think I'm going to stop asking my husband for a king sized bed and start asking for a house with a library instead.

Books I Haven't Read (that I'm keeping for ME):

Wicked, the Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire

The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd

The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd

P.S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern

Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner

It's Not Abuot the Bike, My Journey Back to Life by Lance Armstrong

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

A Million Little Pieces by James Frey

The Gathering by Anne Enright

Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert

Digging to America by Anne Tyler

The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver

Bel Canto by Ann Patchett

Ireland by Frank Delaney

Louis Armstrong, An Extraordinary Life by Laurence Bergreen

A Memoir of Misfortune by Su Xiao Kang

Empress Orchid by Anchee Min

The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith

The Constant Princess by Philippa Gregory

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen

Trading Up by Candace Bushnell

The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield

Last Chance Saloon by Marian Keyes

The Red Tent by Anita Diamant

Books I've Already Read (for trade at the used book store):

Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding

Under the Black Flag by David Cordingly

The City of Falling Angels by John Berendt

I also picked up quite a few children's books, and two novels for my mom that that she already has tucked away (and I can't remember their titles).

I'd say it was an excellent score.

  4. Hi! :) I just updated my blog about the books I'm reading, and they are on your list: The Secret Life of Bees, and The Mermaid Chair. I just found out that The Secret Life of Bees was made into a movie! =)
I've read Water for Elephants, what a great book!
    Wishing you a great weekend!

  5. Hi Laural, thank you for the visits, I will post the next part of my story this weekend, I didn't have time to do that yet. And I am so tired now, just got back from my final exam. I think I did ok, I am just glad the class is over!

I was looking at your book list, the ones you didn't read yet... and I recognized a couple of titles, the Kite Runner and P.S. I love you, but instead of reading these books I saw the movies. And both of them were really interesting. Bryan and I loved Kite Runner, it was a sad movie but with a great story. P.S I love you made me value my husband much more. You know when sometimes you take people or things for grantes? That movie taught me a lesson, it was beautiful. So if you haven't seen those movies yet, you would probably like to read the books. I am like Bia, I can't read a book if I had already seen the movie, it just looses it's shine.

  6. Wicked is a bit strange, but nevertheless entertaining...

Not about the Bike is one of my favorite survivor stories...

The Red Tent is one of my ALL-TIME favorite books! It is a beautiful book about womanhood and I love that it is historical biblical fiction - It gave me lots of "I can't wait to ask God when I get there" questions about the rest of this particular Bible story. I was actually considering using this book to participate in Chelle's book exchange.

Then there were a lot that I want to read as well!

  8. Ummm... yeah, how jealous am I?
I've read Wicked. It's really good. Gritty (if that makes sense), but really good.
The Kite Runner is so so good. It's not a feel-good by any means, but it's wonderful.
Same goes for A Million Little Pieces. There's just something about it.
Anywya, most of the rest are on my list to-read as well.
    Enjoy your books!

  14. I started reading "Wicked" but haven't gotten into it. Sorry, Just realized that I did read "Wicked", it is the second one "Son of a Witch" that I haven't finished. My favorite book by him was "Confessions of a ugly stepsister". I lost interest in reading "A million little pieces" since he admitted to fabricating most of it. Right now I am reading a facinating book called "Escape" by a woman who fled the Warren Jeffs run FLDS cult. What an insight into that oppressive community, especially since he was on the run for awhile and the recent news about that group being investigated for child abuse. From her story, sounds like it was warranted. I also just read "The gold of exodus", the true story of two treasure hunters who sneak into Saudi Arabia to find the true Mount Sinai. There was definately some behind the scenes government tinkering with their adventure. They make a good case for the real Mt Sinai not being in the traditionally held location. A very good read.

  15. Hey Laural! :)

How are you doing? How are Gabi and Gilberto?

Thanks for you comment! I do think that Kyle is very handsome too! hahaha! Even that I miss the way he used to look when he used to have some hair left! :P

In one of my book store trips I wanted to read "Water for Elephants" but when I read about the story in the end of the book, I just didn't think that it was interesting enough to spend so much money on it! If you read, please, tell about here in the blog, I would love to hear about it! :)

Like I said, in my blog, yesterday I got myself my almost first book in english (the first one was Harry Porter's 2nd book, while I was in New Zealand, because of the movie I never read it! hehehehe!

    Have a good weekend!
    Hugs!
    Bia

I've read a lot of those and for the most part I thought they were good enough to read again. That's probably why they line my bookshelves.

  19. Laura! HI!
I finished The Secret Life of Bees two days ago. I really like it, I can see how it was made into a movie, it's very visual.
I've started (or continued? LOL) The Mermaid Chair. Funny thing is the plot and the characters remind me so much of The Secret Life of Bees. There's a lot of religious stuff going on in this one too!
Anyway... I hope I made to the end. I read somewhere here about this other book, The Red Tent, and it's already on my night table waiting for me! ;)
    HUGZZZZZZZZZZZZ

  20. Hi Laura!
I've finished all the books now - The Secret Life of Bees, The Mermaid Chair, The Red Tent.

The first 2 deal with similar issues, very interesting, but I'd like to read something different by the same author though. I like the way she writes.
I really enjoyed The Red Tent. I like books that use historical characters in novels (see one of my favourite writers, Taylor Caldwell, for example).

    What are you reading?
