A Religious State Of Mind

Gabi was in a religious state of mind over the weekend.

On Saturday she demonstrated her love for Jesus by using her newly acquired language skill- the art of repetition.

Gabi: Mom, I love you very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very much.

Me: Ahh, sweetie, I love you, too!

Gabi: But I love Jesus more. I love him more because he's very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very special.

Then on Sunday, she decided she was going to get to the bottom of the whole man-made versus God-made mystery by asking about each and ever thing she came across. Did He make the trees? Did He make mountains? Did He make cars? Did He make streets?

This went on ALL DAY LONG.

Then late last night night as I was braiding her wet hair for bed, she asked her final God-made question.

Gabi: Mommy, is it God or Jesus that puts babies in a mommy's tummy?

Me: It's God, honey.

(Technically, it's both. I mean, you can pray to both for a baby. They are one and the same after all. But I just didn't have the energy after a long day of discussing the divine origin of every single thing on the planet to deal with the questions I know she'd ask if I told her it was both.)

Gabi folded her little hands together, bringing them tightly up under her chin, and looked up to Heaven.

Gabi: God, please put a baby in mommy's tummy. Amen. OH! OH! And please make it a little sister. Amen.

I think she's getting tired of playing with her dolls.

  1. Bwahahaaaa! Let me know how that goes for you. My 6 year old told me that she wished my 3 year old was a girl, and since he isn't we should make a boy next time. Little does she know there will never be a next time.

  5. Ok that was way too freakin' cute. I should teach my sons to pray that God (or Jesus) would put a baby in my tummy ;-) They just aren't allowed to tell daddy they're praying for that ;-) Hehe!

  7. I love that she wanted to make sure she was praying to the right person for a baby sister. You don't want to get that special request sent to the wrong guy!
