Finally On Our Way

The bags are packed!

Including a few things from my MIL to her beloved son...

-Four huge bags of crunchy coconut flavored cookies
-Five boxes of wrapped chocolates (like bon bons)
-Five bags of farinha (manioc flour, which Brasilians love to sprinkle on their rice and beans)
-Six cans of flavored condensed milk
-One squishy bag of cheese (called Caitupury)

My FIL insisted I put the farinha in a carry-on so that the airport police don't think I'm transporting cocaine.

I also have stuffed in my suitcases a bunch of toys that were given to Gabi as gifts, including two dolls (won't that look great on the x-ray machine) and five new bikinis. And a pile of clothes that Gilberto's cousin accidentally left here the last time he visited.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to pay the overweight luggage fee.

Though first I'm going to have to get everything to the Delta counter. We're taking a bus from Santos to Sao Paulo, and I have to lug two huge suitcases, a stroller and three heavy carry-ons without losing track of Gabi from the bus all the way across the airport (we get dropped off in a different terminal).

Usually Gilberto is with me, so I'm a bit nervous to be doing it all on my own. I'm a sitting duck for thieves. At this point all I can do is look like I know what I'm doing (and I've been working on my deadly glare). Wish me luck!

  1. Safe travels!!

I ALWAYS travel alone... and will be doing so by myself in three short weeks, 8 months prego with 2 girlies. The worst is that I'll be traveling back here in July with 3 kids - all by myself... yikes!

  3. I've never really gotten used to the taste/texture of the caitupury cheese, its a little exotic for my taste.

Hopefully people along the way will help you, thats a beautiful bus ride from Santos to Sao Paolo, all those green, green trees.

  6. Safe travels!!! You'll get to practice your portuguese now on the return trip -- or just have Gabi translate for you! You poor gal, you ended up doing the packmule thing both ways! Hope the farinha doesn't explode in your carry on! Have a good trip!

  11. What, no cachaça!! The carts are usually right on the sidewalk at the terminal and since chivalry is still pretty alive in Brazil, chances are a kind sir will help!!

  12. I'd say pack that farinha in your suitcase and LET them think it's cocaine. Because, girl, what a blog post THAT would be.
