The Red Sea

I have recently discovered something about my head that is really disturbing. Have I always had this and never noticed, or is this a new development, and if so, should I expect more?

Okay, here it is. Though if you've ever walked behind me, you might already know. I recently discovered that I have a part on the BACK left side of my head! A cowlick that separates my hair like the Red Sea. No matter how I wear my hair, there it is, screaming out to everyone, Look at Me! I have never been so hair traumatized in my life. Including the horrible poodle perm I had my Freshman year in high school (forever captured for everyone to see in the yearbook).

I'm wondering if all the good hair days I've ever had in my whole life were just a lie. If this is a new development, and I hope it is, is this just the beginning? How many more cowlicks can I expect to get? Is this a part of getting old? I mean, I always expected my hair to get thinner with age, but not to start sticking out at odd angles all over the place.

It really wouldn't be so bad, but this part on the back of my head will NOT obey when I try to fix it! The only way it will disappear is if I pull my hair into a ponytail. I just don't have the strength to do that every day (my hair is really really thick, and heavy).

I've thought about marking the line with a brown Sharpie. Would that work? Or would it just draw more attention to it? Instead of people pointing and laughing at the part on my head, they would point and laugh at the part on my head with the doodoo colored ink on it.

I think my only option is to just let it go. But OH MY GOSH, this is my HAIR.

Dear God,

Please don't punish me for my vanity by causing me to go bald. But if you could please keep the Red Sea off of my head, I'd really appreciate it. I'll work with the one I've got as long as there won't be any more. Though if you find it in your heart to take the one I've got away, I'd love to wake up tomorrow morning restored to my full headed glory. Amen.
