The Fires

If you haven't' heard already, San Diego is afire.

Gilberto and I were home today because both of our work places are located within evacuation zones. Our home, though, is in an area that is unlikely to be affected. Thank the Lord.

It's still a little unnerving to be less than 10 miles from a massive fire that's taking out neighborhoods. There are three large fires burning very close to us, and voluntary evacuations have started taking place about five miles to the south. We have blue, sunny skies above, and brown walls of smoke filling the sky to the north, east and south of us. Our eyes have started burning.

We haven't started packing yet, but I've made a mental list of what we'd need to take and where it's located in case we're asked to leave. All the local evacuation centers are full, so we would go to my Aunt and Uncle's ranch to the East.

I'm off to make a nice, comfort food kind of dinner.
