I Wouldn't Be Surprised If Disneyland Has An Ear Piercing Bagota

This is what watching John and Kate Plus 8 will get you. Well, coupled with a gazillion girl cousins in Brasil who all have holes in their ears.

Gabi: Mommy, I really really REALLY want to get my ears pierced for my birthday.

Me: Okay, honey. But that would be your gift, instead of Disneyland. So you need to decide what you want your gift to be. Ears pierced or Disneyland?

Gabi: Ears pierced!

Me: Alrighty then!

Yes!!! Now I wouldn't have to take her to Disneyland! We live close by, so it's easy to do a day trip. But man oh man, my idea of fun is NOT paying exorbitant amounts of money to stand in line under a hot sun so my kid can spin in a teacup.

Gabi: Yay! I'm getting my ears pierced at Disneyland!

Okay, a little clarification needed.

Me: No, honey. You have to pick. We are only getting you one gift for your birthday, so you have to decide which one you'd rather have. Do you want to get your ears pierced, or would you rather go to Disneyland and not get your ears pierced?

Gabi: Ears pierced!

Me: Okay!

Phew. No Disneyland!

Gabi: I can't wait to tell my friends that I'm getting my ears pierced at Disneyland! Thank you, mommy!

And off she ran.

Gabi will be turning four in three weeks, so I think she's old enough to understand the concept of choosing. Perhaps she's already learned from her mama the special arts of selective hearing and denial?

She may be pulling one over on us, but she's so darn excited about doing both, that I think we'll go ahead and do both.

  1. So cute! That reminds me of when my SIL was here a couple of months ago visiting. She took MH to Borders and MH was holding onto all these Sesame Street stuffed characters. Auntie P finally told her she could pick one, and MH picked Ernie and Bert. So Auntie P laughed, and said, "I told you to pick ONE". And MH said "I did! I want Ernie and Bert!". She seriously thought of them as one. DH ended up buying one of them for her (only to be reminded by me when they got home that she already HAD Ernie!). I'll be interested to hear how Gabi's birthday present works out!!!

Thanks for stopping by my blog this weekend! I'm looking forward to getting to know more about you and your family!

  2. I love the way Gabi interpreted the "you need to decide". I guess she thought it was multiple choice
    a. Disneyland
    b. Ears pierced
    c. All of the above

    Too cute!!! Happy POW!

  3. I love it!!! My daughter just turned 4 in May. I can totally hear this conversation happening between the 2 of us. Good thing that we don't live near Disneyland and that we missed that episode of Jon & Kate. Whew!

  4. Funny, clearly there is no compromise with this girl, she knows what she wants and she knows how to get it!!

  5. OMG - that conversation happens in my house like every freaking day. OK, not about the piercing, but my boys have VERY selective hearing . . . it drives me nuts. But yours sounds like a real sweetie, so I hope she has a blast no matter what she ends up with on her birthday :-)

  10. Awwww, adorable and clever. I have a feeling that the Little Imp is going to be every bit as clever in "choosing" once she hits that age in another year and a half...she's already quite good at reasoning, which frustrates me, but I can't help but think it's cute.

Can't wait to hear how both ear-piercing AND Disneyland went!
