A Little Bit Of Everything

Last night was Gabi's second night at Awana.

She'd had a big day. The park in the morning with a friend followed by a playdate, and then a long afternoon at preschool. When I got home from work, she was pretty tuckered out, but still wanted to head off for her night of being a Cubbie.

More importantly, she didn't want to miss Crazy Socks night. Oh, the injustice of having to miss Crazy Socks night! The girl was TIRED, but I finally relented and we went to pick her socks.

For being all gung ho about wearing crazy socks, she didn't pick all that crazy a pair. I tried to steer her towards her tie dyed hippy socks, or her multi-colored polka dot socks, but she grabbed and wouldn't let go of her purple Hello Kitty socks. Maybe that IS crazy for a four year old.

Anyway, I shouldn't have worried- people must not buy colorful socks for their kids around these parts, because most of the other kids just had on one white and one black sock. Way to get crazy there. It made me happy for the middle ground Hello Kitty socks, though. If people thought that was as wild and crazy as it got around our house, I was happy to misinform them.

It was also Family night, and the parents had been invited to stay. I didn't take my laptop with me because I thought I'd be pallin' around with my daughter the whole night, but when we got there she informed me that I was to leave and come back for her later.

Well, what the heck was I going to do with myself for two whole hours WITHOUT MY COMPUTER? Oh, I wasn't complaining, but I felt a little unprepared to be kicked out into the dark of night with nary a thing planned to do.

Luckily I had a book in the car, (Death at La Fenice), so I turned on the overhead light and settled in, turning the car on every 15 minutes or so to make sure I didn't drain the battery.

(Note to self: stock car with a variety of books. Now that I've started this one, I have to finish it, though it's not the type of book I'm in the mood for right now.)

(Second note to self: get a miners light to wear on my head so I don't freak out about draining the car battery, and then try to pretend you look cool.)

When I went in to get her, she was sporting her new blue Cubbies vest, and had her new book. She was so proud of herself for earning those! And those vests, oh man, kids look ADORABLE in them. I'm actually looking forward to trying to attach badges onto Gabi's after seeing how cute it is.

When we got home and I started to get her ready for bed, I noticed that she was pretty warm. I checked her temperature, and sure enough, the poor thing had a fever.

No wonder she was so tired and wound down.

We let low grade fevers burn in our house (it's the body's natural way of fending something off), so we put her straight to bed. And for once, she didn't complain or try to put off bedtime for just one more minute or one more book or one more drink of water. She just snuggled up with her blankets and was out like a light.

So, um, yay for fevers! (You know what I mean.)

She slept until noon today (I KNOW!) and woke up just as spirited as ever. And no fever. So glad she's feeling better and back to her usual self.

And that means I can still go to Los Angeles tonight!

One of my really good friends that I don't get to see very often because she lives in Denver, is flying over to audition for a game show. She's staying in a super swanky hotel and invited me to crash with her.

I didn't even have to think twice before requesting Friday off. She wants me to audition with her (she has two spots), but I don't think I'll be able to swing doing that and making it back to San Diego in time to pick up Gabi from preschool.

We shall see, though. We shall see. I could really do with winning some money! Oh, I'll have to check that out and see if they give away money or prizes. Not that I wouldn't be open to a new living room set or a boat, but we're bursting at the seams as it is. No, money would be much better.

  1. Oooh, that trip sounds fabulous! Have fun :)
I'm glad to hear that Gabi's having such a fun time with Awanas. And just so you know, on crazy sock day, I was the kid with the bright orange fuzzy toe socks that made me look like big bird. I'm just sayin'. Black and white is lame. Bring on the Hello Kitty and the tie-dye.

  7. Have a good time, and let us know how it goes! I'm with you on the fevers too, let them burn. (that sounds bad, I don't mean it in a bad way, lol) Oh and I loved your favorite things! I wished I could have participated, but all of my favs are over there. So it would have been hard. But I love those things! Maybe I can find some new favs over here and participate next time!??
