I'd forgotten how awesome it feels to wear pants over shaved legs!
I've been wearing capris all summer, even to work sometimes, and I didn't realize that you could see my unshaven legs. Like, duh. Of course you could. There's a whole six inches of hairy skin sticking out of the bottom of my capris!
For some reason it just didn't cross my mind that my short pants were revealing more than I wanted them to.
Until I looked down while I was walking the halls at work yesterday and the light was shining just so through a window and I SAW MY LEG HAIR in all it's visible glory.
I HATE shaving my legs. I'm not young and flexible like I used to be. I don't have a fancy bench in my shower to sit and shave on. And if I bend over I can't breathe properly.
In order to shave, I have to throw my leg up in the air and hope my foot lands against the shower wall between tummy and shoulder height. If that's accomplished, I then have to stand there, balancing precariously and hoping my other foot doesn't slip in the soap.
It's exhausting, so I don't shave very often. Actually, since my legs are too fat to wear shorts, I pretty much only shave when we go to Brasil. Once a year.
I thought I was getting away with it, but obviously not, as my foray into the sunlight proved. No more hippy denial for me!
This morning I attacked my legs with a vengeance. I was huffing and puffing by the time I was done, but I emerged hair free!
And oh my word, I had totally forgotten how amazing it feels to slip freshly shaved legs into a pair of pants! It's almost orgasmic.! I couldn't stop strutting around my room, making my pants brush against my legs because it felt SO GOOD.
I might even go and buy some silk pajamas.
I'll definitely be shaving my legs for the rest of the summer. And maybe even in winter, too. All the exerted energy and precarious balancing are worth that amazing oh so smooth feeling.
You're in good company. When i shaved for our wedding tom was a bit surprised, so I guess that says somehting about how often I bother. Luckily I am a natural blonde and my hair grows verrrrrrry slowly, so I can get away with it (or so I tell myself. Heh.)
ReplyDeleteYeah - not one of my favorite things to do either! I fortunately have a large enough shower that I can maneuver okay, but I go as long as I can get away with going!
ReplyDeleteMMM K, Gonna share my secret with you... I haven't shaved my legs in 15 years..yet, they are as smooth as a baby's butt...
ReplyDeleteEPILADY...takes a while to get used to, but once you get it going you can go for weeks without having to do it again...
Thanks for sharing you hair legs... you always make me laugh..
Oh I hate shaving too! I avoid it as long as possible. Luckily I'm natural blonde so I can get away with it..sort of, like your other commenter.
ReplyDeleteThis was so funny.
I never shave my legs. Seriously, almost never shave, but I'm lucky enough to have very little hair on my legs so I can get away with it. I have no idea how I would deal if I had to shave every day!
ReplyDeleteToo funny! I shave about every other day because I feel like I have to. My Latin blood makes my hair grow faster or something and I swear there are days when I have a "five o'clock shadow" on my legs. Ugh!
ReplyDeleteI don't remember the last time I shaved. I am a waxing gal. I either pay to have it done if I am feeling lazy or I have a waxing pot at home.
ReplyDeleteYou should try it. No more prickly hairs!
Oooo sounds silky soft! ;o) I like pulling on cotton pjs after I've shaved lol
ReplyDeleteBe sure to check in with my blog on Tuesday...it's going to be award time for you.
ReplyDeleteI haven't shaved since 1986...I was living in London at the time, and the showers were really small, so I gave it up. Then I noticed that it didn't seem to make that much difference, so I retained my abstinence back in the states. They call me "The Hairless Wonder." ;)
ReplyDeleteI share your pain Laural!
ReplyDeleteAt least over here in Brazil, you can have someone coming to your house to wax your legs for a reasonable price! Over there in US, I've been told that it's expensive! I don't even what to see what will happen to my legs if I move to US! :P
hugs!
Well, I think I might be in the minority but I shave everyday. I can't stand to have even one rouge hair! It drives me crazy!
ReplyDeleteHi! I just saw you over on Not So Extraordinary's site and thought I'd stop by for a quick visit. I love the topic of your post today. I shaved my legs today too, with Venus razors no less. It felt so good. I am soooo glad I am past the Jr. High phase of cutting my legs all the time. What was my problem?
ReplyDeleteBTW: Brasil once a year? How unfair. Are you from there? I love Brasil. I lived in Argentina way up north near the Brasilian border for a year during high school. I loved my time there and really need to go back.
Glad I stopped by. You have a cute site.
I only shave to my knees because I can't keep my legs up in the shower for too long. Other than the sunlight hitting my thighs, I don't think anyone is wise to my partial leg shave.
ReplyDeleteProbably.
I don't shave anymore. I wax. The girls that are in the aesthetic course at my college do a pretty good job, plus it's cheaper than any other place. I also wax my armpits. My dd is 12 and I take her to have her armpits waxed as well.
ReplyDeleteSo far in this pregnancy I have NO LEG HAIR!! I guess it's the hormones. the airpit hair does get the girl razor treatment though!
ReplyDeleteI started a very clever comment but then my husband came in the bedroom, farted, and left.
ReplyDeleteSo now all I can think about is "Why did he do that?" and "Should I leave the room, too?"
Sorry, but now it seems I've got bigger fish to fry than your leg hair issues.
I was laughing b/c I know exactly how you feel!
ReplyDeleteI hate shaving. With a passion!
I've totally had that realization, when you think you're good, and then you get to work and realize that there's a whole lotta hairy-ness happening where it shouldn't be.
ReplyDeleteThat silky feeling, though... it's totally worth it :)
You are so funny, I despise shaving. I will even wear long pants when it is 100 degrees outside, just to avoid it. Seriously, I can barely get a shower in everyday, like I can spend the extra time doing tactical maneuvers with a sharp object in the shower!
ReplyDeletetotally agree friend.
ReplyDeletefor our wedding some friends bought my hubby a package of razors. in hopes that maybe, just maybe i might shave for the honeymoon.
and just last week i shaved to go to a wake and beans couldn't stop rubbing my legs.
I can't relate...sorry! :)
ReplyDeleteI never used to care... until about 6 months ago when I noticed how gross my legs looked unshaven.
ReplyDeleteSince then I'm a maniac. Every day. I love how they feel shaven.
Crazy I know. Just crazy.
I am a shaving addict- I shave my legs and armpits daily- I hate stubble!
ReplyDeleteI don't mind shaving, because I hate feeling my long hairs and seeing that I've got dark, almost black hair - it ain't so pretty if I don't take care of ALL areas.
ReplyDeleteFunny stuff Mamasphere~
"I'll definitely be shaving my legs for the rest of the summer."
ReplyDeleteShe says the first week in September.
BAHAHAHA! Love it :)
I hate shaving too, but I know exactly what you mean. And, I was going to make fun of what Mommypie said, too.
ReplyDeleteI don't shave nearly as often as I should. It is so much easier in the bath and we don't have one in this house.
ReplyDeleteYou're right though it is the best feeling ever to slip your trousers onto your newly smooth legs!
Have you tried an electric shaver? You can lay down on the floor if you want and shave your legs. And you can't complain that it's not as close a shave as a razor if you're willing to go a whole year without, right?
ReplyDeleteIt is so funny how a lot of us moms are the same!! I laughed so hard because I hate shaving too! How exciting a new pair of silky pj's will feel. :)
ReplyDeleteI HATE HATE HATE shaving. I was 'blessed' with an Italian heritage that allows my hair to grow like an inch a day. Well, maybe not that much, but a lot. I have to shave EVERY SINGLE DAY. Uuuugggghhh
ReplyDeleteI had that laser treatment done. Yeah, it DIDN'T WORK! Again, Uuuuuuuuggggghhh
~melody~
Why don't you shave in the bathroom sink like I do!!!
ReplyDeletelol!!!!
Classic post!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't shave very often either, but I have fair blonde hair and I never wear shorts or capri's. Only pants or long dresses for me!
So funny! I'm glad I'm not the only one huffing and puffing after a leg shaving!
ReplyDeletehahahaha! I actually put on pants today because I was just too tired to shave my legs...and when I do get a chance @ twice a week, it's only up to the knee...I LOVE CAPRIS!!!
ReplyDeleteI went through a non-shaving phase (for the past 5 years with slight non-pregnant breaks) but have returned now to the land of smooth legs. It's awesome. But even more awesome when Daniel notices ;)
ReplyDeleteThe silk pj's thing kinda threw me :)
Have I mentioned that you CRACK ME THE HECK UP??? Cause you totally do.
-Andrea
Wow, I had no idea so many people hated shaving. I have no problem with it. In fact, I sometimes even LIKE it because then I can spend extra time in the shower!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...perhaps you should start stretching?
i used to never shave my legs also, but mainly because i was just lazy about it... i would let it grow all winter long and never even care... but then one night i was lying in bed remembering how great shaved legs feel against the sheets and I decided that if for no other reason, i would start shaving regularly. and by regular i mean like once a week ha! but the feeling of your ohsosmooth legs on any fabric is so amazing!
ReplyDeleteYou know though... I hold to the fact that the feeling is so much better after they have gotten hairy and THEN you shave them.
ReplyDeleteYour comment about the phone calls made me tear up! I hadn't thought about that. Although there might be an equal amount of funny and heart wrenching calls. If you have any tips on places on the Oregon coast I should hit I would love some tips!
LOL i can't wait for jean wearing weather down here so I DON'T have to shave mine!!
ReplyDeleteToo funny!
ReplyDeleteI too wish I had one of those fancy benches to save myself the exhuastion too!
Happy POW!
