Almost Ready

Tomorrow is the big day!

My brain is so frazzled with trip preparations I think I'm at the point of no return. I just want to get on the plane and get the whole travel ordeal over with.

Things have been especially difficult because once people in Brasil heard that I'd be making an appearance, the orders started rolling in. A few of the things I'll be lugging halfway around the world are a laptop, two wireless routers, three watches, two perfumes, two pairs of tennis shoes, hair moisturizer, hats, an assortment of Billabong and Quicksilver t-shirts, and a baby monitor. I feel like a pack mule! I wish I could charge a courier fee, but apparently that would darken the Kay name. Heaven forbid I bring shame to the family by getting all greedy, so no fee will be charged.

I'm also bringing some things to sell so that I can have some spending money. Like Victoria's Secret lotions. I can make a killing on those things (and is my means for having a bit of spending money). But it does leave me questioning how much room we'll have for clothes. I guess I'll find out tomorrow morning when I start packing!

Also on the agenda for tomorrow is a pedicure. My MIL has one planned for me as soon as I get to Brasil, but with the sorry state my winter feet are in, I need a pre-pedicure pedicure. I'm dispensing with the fake tan this year, though. My luck lays on the orange, blotchy side, so I'm just going to wear my lily white Irish skin and hope my fancy toes distract the ogglers when I'm on the beach.

Hopefully I'll get a natural tan by the end of our month long stay. Even though I'll be slathering on the 70 sunblock and carrying a parasol. Yep, this year I'm bringing a parasol! I couldn't find a sun hat that I liked, so I opted for a paper umbrella. I think my fashion conscious MIL might die when she sees it. It'll be worth toting just to see the look on her face! Maybe she won't make me go with her on her daily five mile walks if she thinks I'll be sporting a parasol.

  1. Have a great trip!
And welcome to the American Pack Mule Society! You're now an official member! I did it forever and now the tables are turned and everyone who comes to visit is imposed upon. (Once I made my mom haul down a suitcase of stuff Trader Joe's -- I'm still feeling guilty about that...) VS lotions are popular, but you can make even more of a killing with electronics. ipods (even used ones) iphones, laptops, x-box (hubby made me schlep one of those back the last time). We usually come close to covering our airfare that way by reselling on the Brazilian E-bay.
    Safe travels!

  4. Who needs clothes? You are going to Brazil! Surely a bikini and a sundress will be all you need ;)

Double check on your luggage weight allowance, Brazil is one of the few destinations that they still allow you to take 70lbs. Its usually in the fine print on the airline webpage.

I linked to you today regarding the purse post.

Can't wait to see your pictures from Brazil (or should I say, Brasil)

  6. I'm looking forward to your posts from Brasil! Have a wonderful time. Even though your MIL is bound to drive you crazy, take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Hell, even go on those 5-mile daily walks. You'll get into great shape by the time the trip is over!

You're hilarious with the pre-pedicure pedicure.

  7. I usually never resell stuff, I have a hard enough time collecting for all the requested stuff, but I second Dharma, electronics is what sells, especially ipods!

    Have a great trip!!

  8. Have a wonderful time. Why Victoria Secret haven't branched out internationally I have no idea. I always used to get requests to pick up their lotions when I was visiting.

  12. hahahahah That's why when I go to Brazil I don't tell anybody I am coming. Only my mom!! haha, She's pretty good keeping secrets, plus she orders so many things that I wouldn't be able to bring anything to anyboryelse...

Good idea to bring the Victoria's Secret lotions and stuff. Those sell like crazy down there.

    Wow, it's tomorrow already huh?
Hope you and Gabi have a nice trip, and that everything goes smooth down there. Remember, you will be fine! the "worse" thing that could happen is if you come home speaking portuguese! hehe
    Just kidding!

  17. Be careful with the sun here! I've been getting terrible sun burns because the sun has been way to strong for really white skins! :)

    And Have lots of fun!!!!!

  25. We are usually on the other end, begging acquaintances coming from America to please bring Nintendo games and new shoes and books, etc. ;) Shipping overseas is expensive and unsure.
    Have a great time! :)
