Alcohol And Fried Chicken

Last night I was helping Gabi get ready for bed.

Me: Do you want me to take your hair out now?

Gabi: Yes. I mean NO! NO! Don't take it out! I still need to do a few things!

Me: What do you need to do?

Gabi: Go to the grocery store.

Me: You can go to the grocery store tomorrow with Grandma. She'll do your hair again in the morning.

Gabi: NO, I need to go tonight!

Me: Why? What do you need to get?

Gabi: Welllll. I need to get beer, wine, alcohol and some fried chicken.

Me: You need to get beer, wine and alcohol? Tonight?

Gabi: Yes, we need to be prepared. And don't forget the fried chicken.

The funny thing is we are NOT big alcohol drinkers. I have no idea why she would think we needed beer, wine AND extra unidentified alcohol. OR what exactly we need to be prepared for. OR how the alcohol would help. Though alcohol does tend to help in lots of kinds of situations, just not ones involving four year olds.

Where does she come up with this stuff?

The fried chicken, though, I totally get. Mmmmmm. Though I feel like I need to mention that we bake our fried chicken in the oven, just in case anyone who disapproves of oil fried chicken is reading (Mark, I'm thinking of you!). Though more power to you if you like it fried in oil! I'm not an oil hater! I was just sayin'.

Anyway, I'm thinking it's a good thing she says these things in our house, and not out in public. I can just see us at the grocery store on a busy Saturday morning, and her yelling out in that frantic voice so normal for a four year old, "MOMMY! WE FORGOT THE VODKA! AND WE NEED MORE MUDSLIDE MIX FOR MY CHOCOLATE MILK!"

She actually does yell out crazy stuff in public, so I'm used to the disapproving looks. But so far no one has given me The Look for thinking I let my child imbibe the alcohol. It'd be great if we could keep that one off the list.

So I think I might try to do our grocery shopping alone this weekend, while the need for alcohol is still fresh in her brain.

  1. ROFL! That's priceless! Ah, Gabi!

...but wouldn't putting it in the oven technically make it baked chicken? ;)

  18. That is hilarious! Don't kids say the craziest things? I love the generic "alcohol." For some reason, when my daughter sings a particular Backyardigan song, she sings, "we've got lots of, lots of beer." LOL. Three years old and she has lots of beer.

  21. As far as Jarrah understands it, all of adulthood can be encapsulated in these two items: you get to drink coffee and alcohol. She's really looking forward to it, according to her. ;)

And mmmmm, fried chicken. Baked or fried. You won't get any judgment here. ;)

  25. I say have her make a list and give it to gramma tomorrow. Then you are set and gramma can deal with the dissapproving looks. See? Everyone wins.
