Coming To You Live From My Couch

Our fried hard drive is now safely in the hands of one of my IT coworkers, who is going to take it home and try to retrieve our pictures and videos.

He said he'd do what he can, but if things got complicated, I'd need to send it off to a retrieval center where they would have to use some kind of vacuum in a lab to pull out the data.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he works some magic, because he said that retrieval centers can get expensive. Like, 5000 dollars worth of expensive.

And we all know THAT'S not going to happen. Gilberto would have a heart attack if I told him the price, even if it was only to say how ridiculous it was. Because by my putting it out there, he'd think I was up to something. Some grand plan that I'm easing him into. Because I've been guilty of doing things like that before.

But THIS time he really doesn't have to worry. I'm not interested in forking over thousands of dollars for a month's worth of pictures after all the moolah we just spent on two new computers.

You heard the plural right. Over the weekend Gilberto and I became the proud new owners of our very own computers! He got a really awesome gaming desktop, and I finally made the transition into the world of portable computing. That's right! I got a laptop!

Laptops ROCK! I can't believe I never knew how awesome they are! I still get giddy pushing that little on button and having my machine power up ready to go in just a matter of seconds. And I can go anywhere in the house! I feel like I have been freed from the chains I didn't know were binding me.

I owe that new found freedom to my husband's selfishness. That may sound strange, but it's because he doesn't want to share his computer with me anymore that I ended up with my very own.

He thinks I'm responsible for the computer crash that took us back to the electronic stone age for several days, and I may or may not have encouraged that train of thought knowing what the end result would be.

Since he's a gamer (and I'm not afraid to admit that since I think he's hot, and not geeky at all, like most gamers that I've met), he has special computer needs that are now being met by his special gaming computer that I am not allowed to touch under ANY circumstances. He even gets nervous when I just sit down NEAR the computer.

So for the past few days I've been blogging live from whatever location around the house I can stretch out full length, propped up by pillows. Absolute bliss.

Except now that my lap is occupied, Gabi is jealous and keeps trying to scooch in, and keeps hitting buttons and bringing up weird windows. I need to get her trained before the 15 day warranty is up.

I am a reconnected, laptop lovin' happy camper.

  3. Congrats on the laptop! I don't think I could ever go back to a desktop after having one. I take mine EVERYWHERE and my favorite thing is having it in the kitchen for recipes and of course checking blogs while I am cooking. Enjoy!!!

  6. I'm a pretty new laptop owner too. You are sooo right! It's wonderful and I didn't realize how great it would be either. I just got mine at the end of April. And we used it while we were in "limbo land" with our move. So it has been awesome! Love it! Enjoy your new laptop!!

  7. Good job!!! We have an old laptop that will likely die soon, so I have my eyes set on a new beauty I'd like to carve out a new relationship with ;-)

  8. My hubby is a gamer too - actually, don't tell anyone but I'm a closet gamer myself...shhhh ;)
What game(s) does he play? We've had two computers for this very reason for several years now and are considering upgrading to laptops SOON.

  9. Congrats on the laptop! My daughter hates it when I use mine. Like Gabi, she starts clicking random buttons and says bye, "bye 'puter.'"

  10. Welcome to the world of laptops! They are pretty awesome. Even when you need a minute to yourself so you hide in the bathroom to check your email... which, of course, I am guilty of... at least 2, no- make that 3 times a week. Though I have you beat in the computer department. We have, eh-hem, 4... yeah- 4 computers. Two laptops- one for me one for the computer engineer/geek/hottie/motorcycle-ridin'-leather-wearin' hubby, one desktop for my 4 year old (yes- she has her own computer), and one that runs a side job for us... I LOVE MY LAPTOP! Though just like Gabi, my littlest monster doesn't like my laptop so much. She is always shutting it on me. Cute little stinker!

  11. Blogging is one of the most fun things you can do in bed (after snuggling your kids and . . . you get the picture!).

  12. Good for you...one day I'm going to get a nice new one for me instead of trying to use Lorelai's old slow thing hand-me-down since she got a new Mac!

  14. I don't know what I would do if I couldn't relax in bed and have my laptop.
Hubby and I also have our own computers. He eats over his and sneezes on his and just doesn't keep his up to the same standards as I like mine. ;-)
    Enjoy your new laptop!

  18. Laptops do rock! Well except for the little fact that they are not compatible with my fat wrists!

Glad you're enjoying the portable life!

  22. I love having a laptop - a wireless laptop. I take mine everywhere we go - especially nowadays when Wi Fi is everywhere!

    Congrats on your new purchase!

    Next time... try the Mac!

  23. You and I are kindred spirits. My husband is a gamer and I am a portable blogger. I even took my laptop to the yard sale I was co-running with my sister-in-law. But...but...it's Friday Foto Finish Fiesta!! I have to respond to all the comments...right?

It's also great to take into the kitchen. Do you know how many trees I have saved because I don't have to print recipes anymore. Genius.

Oh...and we bought 3 computers this year: the two I just mentioned plus I laptop for my college bound daughter. These things better last until I can pay off my credit card:-)

  24. I think if I didn't have a laptop, I'd never be on the computer.

Welcome to a whole new world of freedom!!
