Ready, Set, Go!

I've entered into my usual pre-trip panic phase.

There is so much to do, so much still to buy.

I'm wondering how on earth we're going to get through security with two big bags of electronics (including an XBox 360 and 5 digital cameras). There's no way in hell we'd check any of that stuff. I have receipts for most of it, but you just never know when you're going to be given a hard time. On our last trip, my phone charger accompanied by Gabi's cylinder stainless steal water bottle raised an alarm.

And I still have so much to do at work, too.

My coping mechanism when stressed is to make as many lists as I can. I've spent most of my free time today reviewing and editing my lists, trying to get everything finalized. Once that's done, I can print and start checking things off. It's quite possibly one of the best things in life, to check a box.

It is absolutely related to my need to feel in control.

(Which right about now I don't.)

Luckily, Gilberto just steps out of my way and lets me do my thing. I don't know if it's out of fear, or out of understanding for how I work. But the benefit for him is great. He doesn't have to worry about a thing! If something important gets left behind, it's on me. And as long as I get to do things my way (like packing), then that's totally cool with me.

My lists are categorized by day, and they start tonight. First on the list is to buy a lemon.

I'm chomping at the bit, ready to get going! All of those empty check boxes are calling my name.
